Comparing ATP in SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA

Written by SAP PRESS | Mar 25, 2024 1:00:00 PM

There are two versions of available-to-promise (ATP) in SAP Business Suite: basic ATP available as part of SAP ERP, and the more advanced global ATP available in SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization.

When re-strategizing the supply chain planning portfolio, SAP decided to build the new advanced ATP capabilities in SAP S/4HANA. As shown in the figure below, the paradigm of ATP (for customers who just need to confirm orders based on product availability) and advanced ATP (for more sophisticated use, to consider different supply chain constraints during order promising in case of supply shortage) is carried over from SAP Business Suite to SAP S/4HANA.

In SAP S/4HANA and SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, the same ATP module that’s available in SAP ERP is available for all customers. All the features are available with SAP S/4HANA advanced ATP, which requires an additional license.

In SAP S/4HANA Cloud, public edition, the old SAP ERP ATP isn’t available. Therefore, some of the functionalities of advanced ATP are available as part of the SAP S/4HANA enterprise:

  • PAC
  • BOP
  • Review Availability Check Result app
  • BPS

The table below shows a functional comparison among the ATP options. Some of the functionalities are marked as “planned in roadmap” (in the next two to three years) or “future direction” (not planned in the official roadmap but can be considered for a future roadmap) for advanced ATP.
