An SAP PRESS Subscription gives you a shelf of reference books on SAP, and when a problem comes up mid-project, the answer is usually in one of them. The slow part has always been figuring out which book, which chapter, and which page.
Ask Your Library is our answer to that. It's an AI chat built into the subscription that reads your question, searches the books in your library for the passages that address it, and writes you an answer with the book titles and page numbers attached. It comes with every subscription, monthly or annual, at no added cost. Below, we'll walk through what using it actually looks like.
Say you're supporting an SAP S/4HANA rollout, and the warehouse team reports that goods receipts for a new batch of materials are posting to the wrong G/L account. You suspect account determination, but it's been a while since you last worked through the configuration, and you'd like a refresher before you start changing settings.
So you open Ask Your Library and type the question the way you'd put it to a colleague: "Why would a goods receipt for a stock material post to the wrong inventory G/L account?"
A few seconds later, you have an answer. A goods receipt for a stock material may post to the wrong inventory G/L account if there are errors in the automatic account determination setup in SAP. Common causes include incorrect valuation class assignment in the material master, misconfigured OBYC settings linking valuation classes and transaction keys (like BSX for inventory), or using the wrong movement type during posting. Underneath, it lists where that explanation came from: in this example, passages in a materials management book and a financial accounting book from your library, each with a page number.
You follow up in the same chat: "Where do I check the valuation class on the material?" The answer points you to the relevant page of the relevant book. From there, you click through to the source passage itself, read the surrounding section for context, and go fix the materials. Start to finish, it took a couple of minutes, and you never had to open a table of contents.
Ask Your Library searches only the books in your SAP PRESS Subscription and builds its answer from what those books say, so the expertise behind each response belongs to the SAP PRESS authors who wrote them. The AI's role is to understand your question, find the right passages, and put them into a readable answer.
That design has two practical effects. First, you can always trace an answer back to its source and read the full section yourself, which we'd encourage for anything you plan to act on, since AI can still get details wrong. Second, when your books don't cover a question, the chat will tell you that directly.
The example above shows the habit that works best: ask a specific question, then use follow-ups to narrow in on what you need. Some other situations where the chat earns its place:
Usage is measured in tokens, the units of compute the AI consumes, and each subscriber gets 450,000 tokens per rolling seven-day window. That covers roughly 20 in-depth questions a week. Long threads cost more per message because the AI rereads the whole conversation each time you reply, so when you change subjects, it pays to open a new chat and keep separate topics in separate threads.
If you already subscribe, you'll find Ask Your Library as a tab in your Library, ready for whatever SAP question is on your desk right now. The books you rely on have always held the answers, and now getting to them takes about as long as typing a sentence. For details on eligibility, privacy, and usage, see the Ask Your Library FAQ. And if you're not a subscriber yet, monthly and annual plans both include it.
