SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) takes SAP’s products, services, and solutions, and puts them under one roof.
It’s not a tool or a system in and of itself, but instead a collection of on-premise and cloud products that can be grouped under four pillars. In this post, we’ll dive deeper into each of the pillars that make up SAP BTP.
SAP BTP Pillars
SAP BTP encompasses various capabilities that can be categorized into four pillars: database and data management, analytics, application development and integration, and intelligent technologies.
Database and Data Management
This pillar includes everything you need to store, access, process, integrate, and interpret all relevant data in your landscape. The services and products for database and data management allow you to flexibly and efficiently manage and use data at the speed your company requires. SAP HANA and SAP HANA Cloud are large contributors to this pillar, providing powerful data management through an in-memory database, either on-premise or in the cloud. There’s also SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, which enables you to get a single view of data across every aspect of the organization without having to physically move it into a single place. Other products available in this pillar include SAP Data Intelligence, SAP Data Services, SAP Master Data Governance, and more.
Analytics
The products under the analytics pillar allow you to plan, forecast, and make rapid, insight-driven decisions. You can use SAP Analytics Cloud to gather data from your operations systems, data warehouses, and data lakes, and combine it with external market data or third-party spreadsheets using machine learning technologies. The system helps you automatically spot anomalies and identify key drivers behind your performance indicators. You can also forecast what’s going to happen and create intelligent scenario planning options. Other relevant analytics products include SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, SAP BW/4HANA, and more.
Application Development and Integration
The application development and integration pillar gives you everything you need for agile business process innovation, extension, and integration in the cloud and in hybrid scenarios. You can easily integrate different systems, extend your current application, or create new solutions for your business needs. Using design thinking approaches, you can iterate and experiment to build the ideal user experience using the SAP Fiori interface. SAP Extension Suite provides various services that can be leveraged to build and extend SAP solutions. Partners can also build and sell their extensions to SAP solutions at the SAP Store. SAP Integration Suite lets you seamlessly integrate SAP and non-SAP solutions, both on-premise and in the cloud.
Intelligent Technologies
The intelligent technologies pillar includes artificial intelligence, machine learning, intelligent robotic process automation, blockchain, and Internet of Things. SAP solutions such as SAP Intelligent Robotic Process Automation (SAP Intelligent RPA) and machine learning let you automate the kind of complex, repetitive decisions that make up a significant portion of business processes. The automation capabilities of SAP BTP can save a lot of time and allow companies to focus on innovation.
About The SAP Business Technology Platform Book
SAP BTP encompasses various products and services that provide flexibility and efficiency when performing business operations. To better understand what falls under the SAP BTP umbrella and the possibilities this technology suite creates for your system, we’ve published SAP Business Technology Platform: An Introduction.
The book opens with insight into digital transformation, intelligent enterprises, and SAP BTP’s placement amongst these innovations. It also breaks down each technology pillar within SAP BTP and their available products. Once you get an understanding of what SAP BTP is, you’ll learn how to set up your account.
The next part of the book discusses application architecture and design. Understand the basics of designing applications and explore the development approach phases. Get an introduction to user interface technologies, runtime options, and integration solutions.
You’ll also learn about analytics capabilities and the available products in SAP BTP. Then, get to know the security services for authentication and common security flows. The last chapter in this part discusses application development and operations, and explores the key phases of an implementation scenario.
Part III introduces you to use cases in SAP BTP. You’ll begin by learning how to identity use cases, and then see how SAP BTP harmonizes business operations. Explore how SAP BTP can be used with various solutions and technologies: SAP Ariba for managing procurement spend, SAP SuccessFactors for creating a prehire experience, SAP Concur for creating a risk index to improve employee safety, SAP Customer Experience and Qualtrics for obtaining customer experience data, SAP Cloud Application Programming Model to achieve multitenancy, and SAP BTP, Kyma runtime to develop applications.
Who Is This Book For?
This book is for anyone looking for a complete overview of SAP BTP in order to get started with an implementation. Architects will get enough information from the book to help them build SAP BTP strategies, and project managers can understand the extent of effort involved in SAP BTP implementations so they can better manage SAP BTP projects.
